Xbox Controller for Girl Gamers
Girl gamers, listen up! You can pick up your very own pink wireless controller for your Xbox for only $50 direct from Microsoft. There’s even a matching battery pack for $12! This is official Microsoft merchandise, too, so you can probably treat it kind of rough and still expect it to work. And if you need a pink Xbox to go with your controller, check out DecalGirl – I have their Pink Tranquility design on my Blackberry Curve, it’s cute! Also check out GirlGamer.com if you can…looks like it’s set up to be a social networking opportunity for girl gamers!
Pink Minnies
Here is one of my favorite photos I took at Disneyland – it’s a sea of pink Minnies! I am pretty sure they are princesses, and I think they were in the shop at the back of the Critter Country area, but I could be wrong. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find this exact doll online, but you can always go to Amazon.com for their plush Minnie Mouse selection, including one that looks like a princess and is also pink.
Guitar Hero Skin
I hadn’t been playing Guitar Hero very long when I slapped some Hello Kitty stickers on my guitar. But for those who’d like a more finished look, there’s the Guitar Hero “Pink Heart” Skin from Amazon.com! It never occurred to me to skin the guitar, even though my Sidekick and laptop are both skinned. But this one looks like a really cool version, because it comes with a piece for the top, too – it looks like some of the other ones don’t come with that top bit. And it makes your GH2 guitar way cooler than even the world-famous Hello Kitty Fender guitar. Rock on!
Meowlingual for the Chatty Kitty
In 2002, the Japanese company Takara released the Bow-Lingual. Reportedly, this device could tell you if your dog was happy, sad, frustrated, on-guard, assertive, or needy – all based on its bark. In 2003, the company followed up the Bowlingual’s success with the Meowlingual, designed to tell you how your cat was feeling. The product was never successful, though, and it was only ever released in Japan.
But you see, there are a few flaws inherent in this device. For one thing, most dogs say woof woof woof. Cats, however, have a much more broad vocabulary – meeeeeeow, mrrrowt, purrrrrrpurrrrr, mewr, mow, and so forth. Additionally, cats have a greater depth of feeling than the six emotions seen in dogs. They would have to write a translation mechanism that could interpret “if you touch my tail again, I’m going to claw your skin off your face” as well as one that could handle “I don’t CARE if it’s tomato soup, you opened a can and I want what’s in it!” So it’s really no surprise that the Meowlingual did not do very well. Besides, you had to get up close and have the cat meow into the little pink kitty device. And what feline would put up with THAT? The only thing your cat would ever say would be, “get that thing away from me!”
Boutique Monopoly Set
I never really fell in love with Monopoly, because games always took too damn long. But if you want your kids to learn the value of buying and selling plastic buildings and cardboard properties, you could give them the $30 pink Monopoly set which is the “Boutique Edition” – the houses have turned into shops, and the hotels have turned into malls. The dice are pink, the tokens are “funky” and “just for girls,” and paying taxes has turned into paying your cell phone bills. It appears to be a merging of Monopoly with the classic 80s game Girl Talk, which I used to play by myself because I was an only child with few friends. (Ahem.)
Hello Kitty Trike
I have to admit it. There is finally a product with too much Hello Kitty on it. I’m talking about the Hello Kitty tricycle available now from DreamKitty for $130. Aside from being entirely pink (save for yellow pedals/handles and some blue on the seat and wheels), it is just eye-poppingly overdone. See, I think Hello Kitty products should be tasteful, even those made for kids. They don’t have to be minimalist but they should at least be tasteful. This is just like a giant blinking beacon of OMGWTF that is likely to cause car accidents when people see your toddler trundling down the sidewalk and can’t rip their eyes away from the tricycle.
Rockin’ Rocker
I used to have a really crappy “audio chair” that was meant for use with video games. It was uncomfortable, ugly, and had terrible sound, so I never used it. The Blast Pod Audio Rocker, though, looks more comfortable! Admittedly it’s not the pink iRocker, but it is soft, cushy, and only $89. You can hook it up to a DVD player, TV (including video games), or portable MP3 player – anything you like can be pumped through its 3-watt speakers.
Cotton Candy Machine
It’s Independence Day in the United States, which frequently means cookouts and fun times. So I thought I’d bring you a tasty American invention: cotton candy. It’s known as candy floss in the UK and fairy floss in Australia, but it’s nothing more magical than sugar and some food coloring. Cotton candy is fat-free, too! Normally you can only get it at fairs and circuses and so forth, but this cotton candy machine enables you to pour in sugar and make your own cotton candy! It’s on the pricey side, at $400, and refills are $20, but it might be fun to set up a cotton candy table the way kids set up a lemonade stand.
Hello Kitty Bowling Ball
This is a classic item I’ve seen many times before, but it hasn’t been featured on this site yet. The Hello Kitty bowling ball is one in a large lineup of character-covered Viz-A-Balls. I don’t have sufficient skills to make it economical to buy my own ball, but I know bowling is a pretty popular sport so perhaps someone reading will be inspired to buy their own! There’s also a matching hand towel. I don’t see a Hello Kitty ball bag on the site, but there are lots of other pink bowling accessories that will satisfy a wide range of bowlers…provided they like pink, that is. I do think it would be fun to walk in with a pink ball bag and then pull out a Hello Kitty ball though! (It’s too bad I didn’t get this entry written on the 14th when I bookmarked the ball, or I could have beaten Hello Kitty Hell to the scoop. I do have to give him credit for finding several different HK bowling balls though!
Hello Kitty Sega Dreamcast
I try to feature items here that you can actually purchase, which is why I don’t have much of the pink items on Etsy – they are usually one-of-a-kind designs and by the time I posted, they would be gone. But even though the Hello Kitty Sega Dreamcast is no longer being made, I thought it was worth including because you might still be able to find one. Oddly enough, the console came in both pink and blue, but Hello Kitty was featured on both of them. I think they could have made it more interesting by making the Kitty designs larger (though Xbox went a little overboard with that), but I like that all of the accessories are available in pink. The little thing on the right is the Virtual Memory Unit (VMU), the Dreamcast’s version of a memory card. One mystery on the Japanese website is the “Hello Internet software of kitty” – perhaps this product gave buyers access to a special website? The world may never know!
