Pink’s Hot Dogs

Originally it was just their family name – Mr. and Mrs. Pink and their hot dog stand got started in 1939. Today, though, Pinks Hot Dogs is a way of life…a pink way of life! The family members who operate the stand now have embraced pink as their color of decor, as you can see in this picture. They reportedly have some of the best hot dogs in L.A., and what delights me is that their menu includes a vegan dog! Officially it’s the “Patt Morrison Baja Veggie Dog” and comes with guacamole, chopped tomatoes, and chopped onions. But since they have the veggie dogs on site, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind putting something else together using one – like the grilled mushrooms and swiss cheese from the Mushroom Swiss Dog. This sounds so yummy, I wish I could get some!

The recipe for this Fairy Castle Cake is in British units, and some of the ingredients are unfamiliar to me, but I’m sure you can come up with something similar!

Today we are showcasing some lovely pink cakes! The one pictured here is by Ice and a Slice Cakes in the UK, they also made some lovely little mini cakes in pink! There’s Ashley’s Pink Birthday Cake, made by a very loving mother for her six-year-old daughter. I’m amazed that it only took 4 hours to make, then again I watch Ace of Cakes and the cake contest shows sometimes and they churn them out pretty fast too! This attractive cake has a big cupcake on the top, I really like that one, it’s nifty! But I had to save my favorite for last, here you go: this one! Peppermint Custard

Here’s what I had for a snack today – pink custard! It was peppermint. I wouldn’t say that anything minty should be pink – if anything, it should be green, like mint chocolate chip ice cream is usually dyed green. But I suppose if you mashed up Starlight mints and made them into a paste, you might end up with something pink, which is why this peppermint custard is pink. I got it at the Chantilly outpost of Milwaukee Frozen Custard and it was pretty awesome – much lighter than some of their other custards, more like a frozen yogurt but somehow creamier. And it was pink!

Pink Doughnut (Edible!)

Please forgive the really bad picture, but I had to share the breast cancer doughnut with you! I saw this at my local 7-11. It is a frosted doughnut with sprinkles that benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. It’s $1.19 which is more than their usual doughnut, and only 15 cents goes to the foundation, but it’s better than nothing. They’re actually offering it as part of their own “Pink for October” type celebration. Supposedly they have other pink stuff too, though I didn’t see anything besides this doughnut.

Surreal Wine Chiller

In my family, if we want wine chilled, we stick it in the fridge. If we need it chilled in a hurry, we have a big ol’ metal bucket that we fill with ice, and we stick the wine in that. In Karim Rashid’s crazy world, wine is chilled by putting it in the Globalight. You stick the bottle in, and LEDs light up the whole thing with a pink glow. I’m not sure how the lights keep from warming the bottle, but if you have a spare $4500, you can get this thing and tell me how it works.

Hot Cup Holder

Sure, it’s easy to grab a cardboard holder when you’re buying a drink at Starbucks, but it’s not particularly green, is it? Now you can be green and pink! The Diamond Life sells holders for hot cups as well as for cold cups. Paris Hilton has been spotted with a $286 model. I never really saw the need for cold cup holders, but the hot ones can be very helpful. Unfortunately they’re also expensive…the one pictured here is $25 for a little strip of padded fabric with some crystals on it.

Stovetop Espresso Maker

I had no idea you can make espresso on your stovetop! I thought you needed one of those fancy machines like they have at Starbucks. But Bialetti makes the Dama, which has an easy-grip silicone handle and cooks up the coffee right at home without a giant machine. Bialetti is apparently a very famous name in Italy for coffee, and I would have expected that the Dama would be a lot more than $40, but that’s how much it sells for! It only comes in a 6-cup size, though, so you are going to be drinking a lot of espresso with this. Happily, Bialetti is donating an unspecified amount to unknown breast cancer organizations for each purchase of this equipment.

Peju Pink

For those of you who like to booze it up while still showing your support for women with breast cancer, or even if you just want to impress people by having this wine at your shindig to make them think you support women with breast cancer, you can check out Peju Winery’s Peju Pink. I honestly don’t get what it tastes like…it’s Colombard plus Chardonnay plus Merlot and they say it tastes tropical. It’s only 24 proof, so you won’t get drunk without a whole bottle in you, unless you’re tiny. It’s only $22, and 25% of that goes to organizations that support breast cancer patients and advance research.

York Patties

My wife brought home a package of these pink York patties from Target and I was thrilled! I hadn’t heard of them before, but they are really cool. Well, actually they’re the same as regular York patties, but they are tinted slightly pink! I was going to take a picture of the ones we have but the picture I found online was better. If your local store doesn’t have them, you can get an 11-oz bag at Candy Warehouse for $5. As an added bonus, Hershey’s is making a $300,000 donation to support breast cancer research. According to their Hershey’s Pledge website, you can also look out for pink-packaged Hershey Kisses, chocolate syrup, and more! (But only the York patties are actually pink on the inside.)
