You have a $275 calculator! Maybe you can use it to find out what your budget needs to be now that you’ve spent $275 on a junky calculator.

Apparently DJs all have thousands of dollars to spend on headphones, or maybe they don’t have it but they buy them anyway because it’s a scene that’s so fashion-conscious. These are from Swarovski’s Fashion Rocks line; the website is very hoity-toity, which makes me think Swarovski needs to improve its image considering how cheaply their products can be sold. I dunno though, maybe it’s just a double brand image.

This camera, by Fuji, is called the FinePix Z5. And yes, it has Miss Kitty White on it. But I’m not sure I like it. For one thing, I am of the opinion that a gemstone rendering of HK should be done in silver-tone metal. White gold, platinum, sterling silver, whatever you like. This allows the viewer to perceive an all-white cat, which is what HK is. But when you set her in yellow gold, she comes out looking vaguely jaundiced. Who wants a jaundiced, mouthless feline? The camera is also a little disappointing because only the front is pink; the back is silver. Interestingly, while trying to find information on this camera from somewhere other than where I originally heard about it, I discovered that Cnet’s “Crave” site has been tracking HK gadgets too. And like Hello Kitty Hell, ShinyShiny, and all the others, they love to hate on Kitty. With comments like “Are we really seeing the beginnings of an organized underground movement to combat the Hello Kitty Empire?” and “the evil Hello Kitty Empire” it is readily apparent that gearheads don’t like Kitty. (Except me, of course, I am both a techie and an HK fan.) So if that’s the case, why are so many electronics products made in HK versions? Laptops, cameras, cell phones, headsets, Xboxes, computer mice, cars…HK adorns every geek toy you can think of.

Oh wait, what was I writing about? This camera? Well, I can’t tell you much, except that it’s only sold in Japan for the moment. And apparently it’s not even available there, because the Sanrio JP shop says it’s sold out! I guess many Japanese people are happy to pay over $500 for a camera with The Kitty on it.

Like the less-blingy rhinestone mouse I mentioned back in July, this set is going to get really dirty after you’ve used it for a little while. Anybody who has spent hundreds blinging out their gear can tell you, hands have oil on them, and oil does not make for shiny crystals. It doesn’t really matter though, because I can’t find this for sale on the La Chaise Longue website, where it is supposedly available. (No, the site being in French is not the problem – I speak it well enough to read a webpage or two!)

With a 6.60 carat pink topaz in the center, 0.15 carats of diamonds on the outside, and 14-karat white gold for the ring, this is definitely a flashy ring that’s way more than most people need. And did I mention that it’s $350 at Ross-Simons? If you like this sort of thing but you want to keep your wallet sane and happy, may I suggest some of Shavonne.com’s pink tourmaline rings instead? They are just as flashy but they only cost $10-40.

I suppose they might be popular in Japan for holding meishi but I think they are rarely used in the western world. And yet I happen to have no idea where all of my many business cards have gotten to, so perhaps it would come in handy after all! Unfortunately I don’t know where to get one because the site where I found this refuses to print sources, but if somebody finds a way to purchase this I’d be happy to put up the link!

Seriously, this mouse was a bad idea. How do you operate a mouse? With your hand. What is on your hand? Dirt and body oils. What is on this mouse? Little shiny tidbits. What happens when you get dirt and body oils on little shiny tidbits? They get dirty. Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? I won’t deny that it’s cute, I do like the look, but it’s just not a good idea. And it doesn’t help that the scroll wheel looks further back than it should be, and I can’t see the buttons at all. So although this mouse is pink and somewhat sparkly, I can’t really recommend it. The Steinmetz Pink Diamond is the largest pink diamond ever, but the Vertu Pink Diamond phone is covered in much, much smaller pink diamonds. (It also comes in white diamonds, but this is Pink Blog, so who cares about the white one?) There are 923 pink and white diamonds, sapphires, and rubies on the phone, and the keypad is rose gold. The price has reportedly not been released to the public – “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” – but I have seen rumors that it’s $20,000 or more.
