Royal Plaza Mall
Kicking off a new category here at PinkBlog, we have the Royal Plaza Mall in Aruba! It is located in the capital, Oranjestad, right near the cruise ship port. I am really attracted to this shade of pink! We were there last week, and I immediately knew I had to post it to PinkBlog…although I was surprised to find out I didn’t already have a Buildings category, since I have a picture of a different pink building, but I never got around to posting it! That will come soon. Anyway, the Royal Plaza Mall is home to a variety of shops, most of which sell trinkets and souvenirs. There are some interesting local handicrafts sold there, and there are at least two restaurants (that I saw) – Iguana Joe’s and Le Petit Cafe. The mall itself is open-air and four stories high, with kiosks in the plaza at the center. And it’s pink! Whoever came up with the idea that buildings should be painted pink, I owe you a sincere debt of gratitude.
Pink Segway
This is, reportedly, the world’s only pink Segway. It was made to be a charity auction item and bidding was to start at $7500 (a basic Segway starts around $5100). I have no idea if it ever sold; it was to benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, a research and support organization. (Obviously the Segway is pink as a breast cancer promotion.) Now, you are more than welcome to paint your own $5k Segway pink, but you won’t have the only pink Segway. That privilege belongs to whatever lucky person won this very special Human Transporter device.
Tongue Ads in Japan
Because nothing wants to make you brush your teeth like seeing giant tongues in your subway station, Reach has stepped up its marketing tactics with these enormous 3D plastic tongues. I always thought the selling point for Reach was that you could reach your back teeth – remember the guy with the hinged head? But apparently they’re targeting tongues too. Reportedly Reach is offering Japanese consumers a toothbrush with a tongue cleaner on the back. (Sounds like it would get awfully gooey to me.) But giant pink tongues aren’t the only things you can see in Tokyo train stations…check out some more Japanese advertising gimmicks.
Credit Card Organizer
At first I was going to say that the $59 pop-up credit card organizer was a complete waste of money, and then I realized – if you need this kind of product, you probably have the money to buy it. It is a fancy-pants version of the ol’ card slots in your wallet – you push up on one of the levers, and two credit cards are pulled out for easy access. The organizer comes with stickers so you don’t forget which card is which – but come on, we’ve all handed over our library card at the grocery store checkout, haven’t we? The world didn’t end! But anyway, this thing reminds me of the old pop-up phone books you used to see…I always wanted one of those as a kid, even though I never knew enough phone numbers to need to write them down! But I digress. This credit card organizer holds 12 cards, which is twice as many as its cheaper cousin, but the cheaper one doesn’t come in pink. And hey, pink is what we’re all about, so throw this into your pink purse and away you go!
HK PDA Phone
There is only so much you can do to turn your phone into a Hello Kitty extravaganza without actually owning a Hello Kitty phone. Sure, you can skin it (I love that site BTW, have used them three times) and get a Hello Kitty case and use Hello Kitty wallpaper and devise your own kawaii ringtone. But you still don’t have a Hello Kitty phone. Unless, of course, you have the Hello Kitty cell phone from DreamKitty. It’s the OKWAP i885 with a feline twist. Now, is it a good phone? Well, probably not. Once you’ve figured out how to switch it from Chinese to English, you will run into a lot of deficiencies. The web browser is WAP, which most phones have outgrown these days. The display is tiny, and although you can take pictures and video with the 2MP camera, its ringtone options are limited. (Then again, I have a Sidekick 3, so don’t talk to me about limited ringtone options.) Anyway, it does come bundled with a few neat programs – currency converter, Chinese-English dictionary, and – er – calorie counter…but I’m not sure if you can actually install anything else on here. It won’t be particularly well-supported, and considering that it costs $600 I would hope for a little more help than it looks like this will come with. At any rate, if you want a Hello Kitty phone, this one does work in the United States with several different carriers. Considering that most Hello Kitty phones stay in Asia, this is your best bet, so grab it while DreamKitty still has it! (They go out of stock pretty fast on many things.)
PinkTheme.com
It’s one thing to restrict your web surfing to only pink-themed sites, but if you want to take it to a whole new level of obsession, go visit PinkTheme.com. Whether you want to keep things simple and only make the tabs pink, or go all-out and make Firefox completely pink, you can do it all at PinkTheme.com. For those of you who are a little wary of turning your drab gray browser into a cotton candy fiesta, you can create a PinkHome search engine or use the SearchStyle page for your searching needs. Regardless of which search option you pick, you’ll get Google results all the time – it’s just a matter of making your favorite search engine a little pinker.
