Pink Cameras
There are a lot of pink cameras out there; I think it’s pretty much required that if you’re going to make a camera, you have to make a pink version.
This DXG Camcorder is popular - it’s gotten 19 hives to date on StyleHive - but it’s gotten really abysmal reviews (check out Cnet for an example). I think I actually saw this one, or one similar to it, in Radio Shack last Saturday on sale for $30 - the sales guy said “it’s normally a lot more, if you buy it, people will think you spent a lot!” Except if it turns out to be a piece of crap, what is your recipient going to think of you then? I do like the shade of pink…but that’s apparently all that’s good about it.
The Olympus Stylus 760, on the other hand, has gotten pretty favorable reviews. They liked it over at Steve’s Digicams, and Cnet’s editors liked it too. This one isn’t quite as appealing in terms of color - when compared with the camcorder above, this looks downright lilac or lavender. But it does look like it fits in your pocket, so that’s a point in its favor! It’s still a fairly new model so the price is still fairly high - looks like it retails for about $250 at present.
The Sony Cybershot DSC-T20 appears to be even smaller than the Olympus camera. According to Engadget, it’s strictly a fashion camera, designed for “fashionistas.” At $330 MSRP you also need to have major bank to get it as a party point-and-shoot, but if you buy it from Amazon it’s only $290 - oddly enough, that’s cheaper than the silver, black, and white models. I’m tempted to write to Amazon and ask why there’s a price difference based on product color - I can only imagine that the white is the most expensive ($308) because you’ll want it to match your iPod?
You can read about the Casio Exilim EX-Z1050 at Digital Photography Review, and Engadget talks about it too. Cnet’s review includes a video. But none of these sites explain to me…what does Exilim mean? It sounds like it must mean something. Is it Ancient Greek, Hebrew, or just a made-up jumble of letters? The official Exilim website doesn’t shed any light on the matter.
But what if you really, really want a pink camera, and you just cannot afford it? What if you’ve already spent all your cash on other pink stuff? Never fear, the Argus QCM-099 is here for you! Sure, it only has 0.3 megapixels and no zoom, but at least it’s only $13!
