The Pink Flamingo
Is there a more iconically pink animal than the flamingo? They have resided on our lawns for decades, and even longer as the real thing - the first true flamingo appeared millennia ago! I was amused to find out why flamingos are pink - apparently it has to do with their diet, rather than for any evolutionary advantage. Of the six species of flamingo, the most pink type is the Caribbean Flamingo, the only one native to North America. Other flamingos typically display pale pink or even white plumage with black accents, but Caribbean Flamingos are usually brighter pink with red accents. The National Zoo, located in Washington DC, offers visitors the opportunity to adopt a flamingo and contribute to conservation efforts.
The bestest pinkest flamingos are found at the San Diego Zoo!
